Programs & Services

CAP-W provides the following programs and services to the greater Jacksonville area:

A² Asthma Action and Faculty Training

The A² Asthma Action Asthma-Friendly School Program offers asthma education to increase and enhance the asthma knowledge of students, families, nurses, teachers, coaches, and front office staff.

The program also offers comprehensive case management and linkages to the primary care physicians to assure successful asthma management for students with asthma.

Community Asthma Workshops

Asthma education is provided for families about managing children’s asthma and how to respond in an emergency situation.

Community Asthma Workshops focus on children and families who have a recent hospitalization or emergency room visit because of asthma. These are offered twice monthly and are held at THE PLAYERS Center for Child Health, 3563 Philips Highway, Building E suite 502.

Children are taught to manage their asthma through interactive games and activities, while parent and caregivers attend an adult class with a question and answer session to learn about controlling their children’s asthma. All families receive an asthma toolkit including a spacer device/mask, peak flow meter ( if age appropriate) and dust-mite allergen-free pillow case cover.

Easy Breathing

Easy Breathing® is an asthma management program for pediatricians and primary care practitioners. It includes training and tools to improve recognition of asthma among children, as well as classification of asthma severity.

Easy Breathing® adheres to the National Asthma Education and Prevention Program Guidelines of 2007.

Free Sports Physicals

Every August, Wolfson Children’s Hospital, Nemours Children’s Specialty Care, and The Jacksonville Sports Medicine Program offer free sport physicals, required for every student athlete participating in school sports.
